GPSGlobal Positioning Systems, used mainly for pagers and cellular telephones transmissions, started upgrading and changed over, most recently, on August 23, 1999. Although some argue that GPS had no Y2K effect or problem in August 1999, some variances did occur. GPS system engineers and programmers foresaw Y2K as a potential problem and allocated for continuous upgrade changes. Because it has a rollover that happens every 1024 weeks, upgrades have been happening since before the August 23rd date. The next upgrade of the GPS system will be in 2002. |
